Riz’s Decision & Vannak’s Death Set Up Master Chief’s Original Halo Story To Finally Be Told: Master Chief John-117’s original Halo story can now be told thanks to Halo season 2. Pablo Schrieber plays the character in Paramount’s live-action Halo series.

  • The “Silver Timeline” of the show is different from the main canon of the Halo property and takes place before the events of the first Halo game.
  • John-117 and the other Spartan-IIs who were part of the Silver Team joined forces with him, but recent events in Halo season 2 have revealed what happened to them and set up Master Chief for his most famous single mission.
  • In this alternate reality, Halo season 2 episode 5 shows what happened after the Fall of Reach. John-117 and his few remaining friends take refuge on the colony world of Aleria.
  • They barely made it out of the world before it was destroyed by the Covenant. But the episode also reveals what happened to Vannak-134 (Bentley Kalu), Riz-028 (Natasha Culzac), and Kai-125 (Kate Kennedy). This sets up Master Chief for his first and most famous Halo story.

Silver Team Is Officially No More After Halo Season 2, Episode 5

  • From the start of Halo season 2, Silver Team had trouble because of how the Office of Naval Intelligence and the UNSC’s Fleet Command messed with things. In the beginning, ONI’s Col. James Ackerson made John-117 look like he was mentally ill.
  • This was done to discredit the Chief’s proof that the Covenant was already on Reach. This danger was kept secret because fighting them would be pointless and people wanted to keep things calm.
  • Because of this, Silver Team was taken off active duty, and Kai-125 decided to leave with Ackerson before Reach was killed. He had agreed to train his new Spartan-IIIs, which were shown at the end of Halo season 2, episode 5.
  • As seen in Halo season 2, episode 4, the last three members of Silver Team fought against the Covenant even though their armour was taken by ONI when the team was leaving. Va’nak was killed, though, by the Covenant’s judge Var ‘Gatanai. Because of this, Vannak is buried and his body is burned in Halo season 2, episode 5.

On top of the injuries she had already gotten on earlier missions, Riz-028 got more injuries during the Fall of Reach, which made her decide to quit being a Spartan for good. Doctor Catherine Halsey and John-117 want her to keep fighting, but Riz doesn’t want to go with them. Instead, she stays with the people on Aleria. Following this, it looks like John-117 is now the sole member of Silver Team still alive.

Master Chief Is Now Ready For His Solo Halo Adventure

  • It’s likely hard for Master Chief on a personal level that Silver Team is gone. It does, however, set John-117 up for the live-action Paramount show to finally adapt Halo: Combat Evolved, which was the first game in the series and featured John-117 as one of the last known Spartan-IIs after the Fall of Reach.
  • While the UNSC Marines help, Master Chief is the only Spartan hero who wants to keep the Covenant from taking the first Halo ring.
  • In the last episodes of Halo season 2, Kai-125 and the Spartan-IIIs are likely still going to have to pay for what they did. But it doesn’t look like Kai and John will work together again because Master Chief wants to get back at ONI and FLEETCOM, especially for what they did to Ackerson.
  • With the Battle of Installation 04 (the first Halo ring), John-117 should be the only Spartan-II from now on. This is especially true if Halo season 3 does happen.

John-117 Still Needs One Ally For Halo Season 3

Even though Silver Team is pretty much broken up, John-117 will still have friends. But he still hasn’t found Cortana, his most important friend who was taken by the Covenant during the Fall of Reach. Hopefully, John-117 will be able to save Cortana before the end of Halo season 2. This is especially important since she is so important during the Battle of Installation 04, which could be the focus of a third season.
